So you think you should get pocket money?

Remember it is not always possible to have pocket money on a regular basis. DO NOT DEMAND POCKET MONEY! Think carefully and consider the points below.

A 5 point plan to present your argument: ask your mum/dad or the grown-up who looks after you to help you with this - talk about money.
  • Before you talk to an adult write down the things you would like to buy with your pocket money.

  • Check out how much they cost and see how much money you would need to buy these. Remember not to think BIG!! You can always save up towards something over several weeks.

  • Think about the best day to get your pocket money. If you get it on Saturday you might be tempted to go out and spend it all quickly. If you get it on a school day you will have time to plan your spending.

  • Remember that the adults around you are responsible for the money they earn or receive.

  • Ask to talk about pocket money with the adults who will give it to you. Ask them to find a time to talk to you about it. Give them all the facts you have collected - you can complete and print off a sheet to help you with this.

There may be very good reasons why you can't have a regular amount of pocket money at the moment. Money doesn't grow on trees!

Accept that they may not be able to give you all the money you want.
